Lori D’Angelo

At the end of that summer, my friends were all talking about Patrick Swazye on the dance floor, but it was the Bigfoot movie with that lady from Anne of Green Gables and that kid from Full House that affected me the most. By the time I had to go back to school and listen to my lovesick friends overquoting Johnny or pretending to be stuck-up Baby waiting for rescuing in the corner, I had seen that made-for-TV Magical World of Disney film, which we taped on the VCR, 55 times. In the movie, two kids get lost in the woods, and Bigfoot helped them find their parents. I wasn’t lost in the woods, but I was lost. So, finally, after simply staring at the TV screen for five months, I headed to Hills Department Store and decided to do something. What I did was bought a needle and some craft supplies and tried to conjure up the things I wanted most. After three days of trying, I was finally happy with my felt art. But the most magical piece I created wasn’t the one showing Bigfoot in the forest by the moonlight. Rather it was the one that depicted my mom getting in her metallic blue colored Ford Escort, putting her hands on the wheel, and steering her car towards home.
